On August 24, 2009, at 8:45 pm the Liberian Cultural Music Album Project was launch at the entertainment house at the University of Liberia.
Through a vital collaboration with New International which is a media group in involved in non-violence, social justice, Peace and culture the launch was instituted The Liberian Cultural Music Album launch is the first step in the implementation of Liberian Cultural project this runs from August to December.
Artistic members of oikos Monrovia have embarked on this project to promote sustainable Liberian cultural practices through music after 14 years of civil war and educative sustainable innovations to university students all blended under oikos Monrovia. Theme of this project is Sustainability through Music. This project is also gear toward the promotion of social cohesion amongst diverse Liberian youth from different ethnic and cultural orientation. Through this project we intent to create the platform through which university students can come together to discuss sustainability developmental issues. This is one of our mind changing projects that intends to shift the Liberian youth mind. . The Launch started with the singing of the national anthem of Liberia. The Liberian Cultural Music Album was officially launched by Thomas Fallah, Representative district number Seven, Monsterrado, Republic of Liberia. Two Speeches on Cultural relevance were delivered by two oikees, they also reflected on the past civil war in Liberia and the need for youth to engage in sustainable post war developmental activities, these were powerful speeches stating the historical framework of our cultural and the important of social cohesion and promotion of our vital cultural norms and values. A speech was delivered by oikos Monrovia’s president highlighting sustainable lifestyles. There were also musical performance by oikos Monrovia artistic members and guest artists, cultural dramatic performance at the program and oikos Monrovia family sing a song. Local artists who are also members of oikos Monrovia that are involve with this musical album are Aba, Beneviolence, Lil Shadow, Eddie,Lil Afkins,O B Young Face, Fortune, T-5, and Alphonso.
About 350 persons attended the program. Guests at the occasion were from the University of Liberia, the civil society, the government, NGO and business sectors.
The musical product of this project will be on the local market by next month and we are currently looking of international partners to market album international. Funds generated for the sale to be allocated for Oikos Monrovia activities and projects. This launch attracted the coverage of the electronic media, the University’s radio station LUX 105 FM covered the program.
During the five months of this project there will also be a formal cultural exhibition and performance hosted from November to December. We have planned to have traditional mask dancers, other traditional artists, arts and crafts at the exhibition and performance. The success of part this will rely on the funding we will solicit.
